Former President Donald Trump called Medina Spirit a “junky” on Sunday, after the Kentucky Derby winner’s trainer revealed the horse tested positive for an illegal substance.
“So now even our Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit, is a junky. This is emblematic of what is happening to our Country,” Trump said in a posting on his blog site.
“The whole world is laughing at us as we go to hell on our Borders, our fake Presidential Election, and everywhere else!” the former commander-in-chief said.
Bob Baffert revealed earlier in the morning that Medina Spirit tested positive for betamethasone in a post-race drug test.
The horse had 11 picograms of the anti-inflammatory above the legal limit in Kentucky racing.
Baffert, a Hall-of-Fame trainer, said it was “shocking” because Medina Spirit has “never been treated with betamethasone.”

“Yesterday I got the biggest gut-punch in racing for something I didn’t do,” Baffert told reporters at Churchill Downs in Louisville. “It’s disturbing. It’s an injustice to the horse.”
Baffert was suspended from Churchill Downs, but so far Medina Spirit has not been disqualified from competing in next Saturday’s Preakness, the second leg of the Triple Crown.
