This past weekend Mark Meadows had a surprise visit to Nancy Pelosi’s office on Saturday in an effort to urge her to include direct stimulus measures in the postal bill that they were set to vote on however she wasn’t in the office. Therefore On Wednesday, earlier today the White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told Politico his staff reached out again to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday to restart negations on a broad stimulus bill with an emphasis on including direct stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment benefits. His plea to restart talks comes as economists worry the expired $600 enhanced unemployment benefits—which Trump temporarily replaced with $300 enhanced benefits—could pull the economy back into contraction. Meadows said that “we haven’t anything from her, and I don’t anticipate we’ll actually get a phone call back.” He said he doubts Pelosi will restart talks until later in September when the next spending bill rolls around and it is absolutely necessary that congress agrees on a bill

The IRS just announced that it will send out 50,000 stimulus checks next month to people who didn’t receive a payment from the first round because of technical issues. The “catch-up” Economic Impact Payment relates to a mistake the IRS made in processing the original stimulus payments. What happened was when the IRS first sent out checks, 50,000 individuals had a portion of the economic impact payments diverted to pay their spouse’s past-due child support. “The IRS came out and said “they are aware that in some instances a portion of the payment sent to a spouse who filed an injured spouse claim with his or her 2019 tax return has been offset by the non-injured spouse’s past-due child support. They said they are working with the Bureau of Fiscal Service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Child Support Enforcement, to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and having now resolved the issue, the IRS states that it will issue the payments in early to mid-September. The payments will be physical checks and will be sent in the mail. They explained how individuals do not need to take any action to receive this payment.

Good news that relates to a second stimulus package actually comes from a surprising source which is the airline industry. Some have speculated that yesterday’s announcement from American Airlines that it would furlough 19,000 workers in October unless further stimulus was passed, may put pressure on the sides to restart talks. This will also likely happen with all the other major airlines as well. Mark Meadows came out and spoke on this earlier this morning and said he believes congress will be able to come to a deal on the stimulus package before these employees would be laid office which is by the end of September. But he goes on to say that “If Congress is not going to work, this president is going to get to work and solve some problems himsel.” Meadows said Wednesday at an event hosted by Politico that. “Hopefully we can help the airlines and keep some of those employees from being furloughed.”with a stimulus package but they will do everything inter power to help out. Both parties agree on including items like another round of $1,200 stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment benefits—although the amount is a point of tension.
